Prosper Kouku, a 23-year-old mason, has been found guilty of defiling a minor.
He pleaded not guilty when presented to a Gender-Based Violence Court where he was charged with defilement.
Following the evidence presented by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei during the full trial, the court presided over by Dora Eshun determined Kouku had indeed broken the law.
According to the prosecution, Kouku forced himself on the 14-year-old girl in her 63-year-old father’s corridor, when she was on her way home.
She had arrived in Accra on July 31, 2024, at 2 p.m. from a visit at her mother’s in Kasoa, Central Region. Kouku followed the victim to her father’s home when he learned of his absence to go through with his plans.
The complainant, the victim’s father, enlisted the help of friends to arrest Kouku after his daughter narrated the ordeal to him when he noticed changes in her mobility.
Kouku denied the offense after he was handed over to the police despite a medical report by Dr. Prince E.M. Daite Clinical Care Coordinator at the Maamobi General Hospital, Accra, indicating a sexual assault had been committed.
He will be serving a 12-year jail sentence after being found guilty.
