Coach James Kwesi Appiah Resumes Role as Exco Member of GFA

Date:

Renowned Ghanaian football coach and former Black Stars manager, James Kwesi Appiah, has officially resumed his duties as a member of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council (Exco).

This follows the conclusion of his temporary step-aside period, which ended on November 30, 2024.

Coach Appiah, who voluntarily took the break earlier this year, did so to focus on his international coaching commitments and personal projects. His decision was widely respected within the football community, as it reflected his dedication to balancing professional responsibilities and personal endeavors.

.Appiah’s tenure on the Exco has been marked by his advocacy for grassroots football development, emphasizing the need for infrastructure and investment in youth programs. His leadership was instrumental in securing support for regional academies and increasing the visibility of local leagues.

His temporary departure, while brief, left a noticeable gap. During this period, the Exco delegated his responsibilities to other council members, but many expressed their eagerness for his return, citing his irreplaceable expertise.

Upon resuming his role, Appiah reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Ghanaian football. “Football in Ghana has enormous potential. My goal is to ensure that our systems are robust enough to produce talents who can excel globally. I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues on the council and look forward to working with them to achieve our shared vision,” he stated during a brief press conference at the GFA headquarters in Accra.

Appiah’s immediate priorities include overseeing the implementation of new training programs for local coaches, advocating for equitable resource distribution across clubs, and supporting initiatives to boost women’s football.

The news of his return has been met with widespread acclaim from fans, players, and stakeholders. Many see him as a symbol of integrity and a pillar of Ghanaian football development. Social media was abuzz with messages of support, with some calling him the “father of modern Ghanaian football.”

As Kwesi Appiah resumes his duties, the Ghanaian football fraternity looks forward to his contributions, hopeful that his leadership will propel the nation to greater heights in the world of football.
