Team Ghana triumphed in the second edition of the Capital City Africa Cup, overcoming DC United U-18s with a comeback victory on Saturday, October 12. The Ghanaian side secured a 2-1 win, marking back-to-back victories in the tournament following Medeama SC’s success last year.
The squad featured a strong contingent, including seven players from Asante Kotoko’s first team, two from Attram De Visser FC, and several top Ghanaian players based in the United States.
DC United struck first, taking an early lead in the first half. However, Team Ghana quickly responded, finding the equalizer just before the break through Elvis Kyei Baffour. The match was initially set to be contested between Asante Kotoko and DC United, but visa issues for some players forced the Kumasi-based club to withdraw after their first group had already departed for the U.S.
The match was a highlight of the DC Ghana Week celebrations, designed to promote Ghanaian tourism, culture, and sports within the DMV area. Geoffrey Owusu scored the decisive goal, ensuring the Ghana Select team claimed the Capital City Charity Cup after a thrilling 90 minutes of play.
