Amin Lamptey applauds Neequaye’s decision to resign

Date:

Sheikh Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the immediate past Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), has applauded Abraham Kotei Neequaye’s decision to step down as president.

Mr Neequaye announced his resignation as president of the GBA in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday, June 25, 2025, on the back of intense scrutiny into the affairs of the GBA by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

The minister, Hon. Kofi Adams, had set up a seven-member committee led by the respected Amarkai Amartefio to probe into the demise of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju in an undercard bout of Ghana’s Professional Boxing League.

Mr Neequaye chose to call it quits on his soon-to-end four-year tenure leading the Authority in the midst of rifts between himself, Hon. Adams, and former sports minister, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

“If you want to make decisions in life, you must consider certain indicators. That is why the decision Mr Abraham Neequaye has taken is appropriate,” he said on Max FM’s Sports Pack.

Sheikh Amin lauded Neequaye’s passion for the boxing discipline, working to improve conditions, and nurturing national and African champions.
