A legendary highlife musician, Akosua Agyapong, has expressed disappointment in the Attorney General’s Office for allowing Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) to operate illegally.
According to her, AG has allowed GHAMRO to be collecting revenues from musicians while the organization’s license was revoked two years ago.
Speaking exclusively with Max Drive in Accra on Wednesday, Akosua Agyapong indicated GHAMRO had been bullying musicians in the distribution of their money.
“Now I am furious with the Attorney General’s office for allowing GHAMRO to collect our money without a license. Why should they be operating while their license has not been renewed since 2022? This is why my problem goes straight to the Attorney General’s office; they haven’t renewed the license because there are various scandals ongoing at GHAMRO, so why should it collect our money?” She queried.
Akosua Agyapong bemoaned that when Abraham Adjetey retired as the Chief Executive Officer, the Interim Board replaced him with a certain man named Flash who had been hijacking musicians’ hard-earned money.
“That Flash guy had been flushing out musicians money. I say that Flash, erh Allah, no,” she bitterly said.
Akosua Agyapong noted that there were about 15000 spinners, and if each was paying GH¢300, the amount it would generate would be huge for musicians to eat from their hard work.
“But where is the money?” She queried.
The singer has been in a long feud with the leadership of the interim Executive Board of GHAMRO and is fighting for better lives for veteran musicians in the country.
