Polish international striker Robert Lewandowski continues his red-hot goal-scoring form for Chicago Fire in the league as he finished off a beautiful cross into the box by Andrew Gutman to break the deadlock in the tenth minute.
That’s his sixth goal in nine league games with two assists. That goal was all they needed to go into the halftime break with a slender lead.
Back from the recess, Inter Miami decided to go on the offensive right from the onset. They got an instant reward in the process on the 47th minute when Lionel Messi whipped a delicious corner kick into the box for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to head home the equaliser.
Both teams came into the game at the back of drawing their last league games, respectively, and were aiming to use this game to bounce back to winning ways.
Both teams went in search for the winner as they tweaked their respective game plans, but none could find that decisive goal to grab all the three maximum points at stake. Inter Miami started with a typical 4-3-3 formation with Messi, Suarez, and Berterame leading the attack.
Coach Hoyos later changed the formation to 4-2-4, pushing midfielder Segovia upfront to join the front trio in attack, leaving Casemiro and Rodrigo De Paul at the heart of the midfield. On the other hand, Chicago Fire started with their traditional 4-4-2 formation, with Lewandowski and Lod leading the attack.
In the second half they switched to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation by pushing winger Haile-Selassie upfront to join Lewandowski and Lod. Both teams went in search for the winner, but the defensive units of both teams stood resolute, and eventually the game ended in a one-all entertaining stalemate at the Soldier Field in Chicago.
In other games on the night, Antoine Griezman scored a brace as Orlando City beat Atlanta United by a 3-2 scoreline away from home, CF Montreal 1-2 Charlotte, DC United 2-1 Columbus Crew, Toronto FC ended Eastern Conference league leaders Nashville’s good run when they beat them by a 2-1 scoreline, Philadelphia Union 5-0 FC Cincinnati, and Houston Dynamo 2-1 Real Salt Lake.
