The Executive Director of Sanitation Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, Papa Sanitation, has called on the government to reintroduce the sanitation taskforce to ensure proper sanitation is maintained in the country.
According to him, the absence of town councils has led many people in the country to litter around.
Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday to mark the National Sanitation Day, Papa Sanitation mentioned that some Ghanaians were not maintaining a proper hygienic environment at home and on the streets.
”Last time, I witnessed someone offloading certain bags on streets at dawn, thinking the person was going to the market. I returned to find the sacks there, and I realised they were garbage. If these town councillors were on the streets, they would have noticed,” he said.
Reintroducing the town councillors, Papa Sanitation said, would ensure sanitation laws were enforced and adhered to.
