Ghana’s Black Satellites displayed resilience and determination as they secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Benin to book a spot in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U20 Championship.
The match, played on Wednesday, July 17, saw Ghana reduced to 10 men early in the second half, but that didn’t stop the team from holding on to a slim lead and progressing from the group.
Ghana started the match with intent and took the lead in the first half through a well-executed finish by Aziz Misbau, putting pressure on Benin to respond. However, just minutes into the second half, a red card was shown to a Ghanaian player, leaving the team with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Black Satellites showed defensive discipline, excellent game management, and team spirit to deny Benin any real scoring chances.
Head Coach Desmond Ofei praised his players for their tactical maturity and mental toughness.
“This win is a testament to our fighting spirit. Going down to 10 men and still holding on against a strong Benin side was no small feat,” he said after the match.
