Abeiku Santana deepens calls for heritage and ecotourism

Date:

The Deputy Chief Executive officer of Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Santana Aggrey has charged the citizenry to immerse themselves in eco, leisure, heritage and cultural tourism.

According to him, that is the surest way to boost domestic tourism in the country.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Thursday, Abeiku Santana said though cultural and heritage tourism was not well embraced in the country, the citizenry had embraced events, festivals and church conferences.

That, he said was also a form of domestic tourism just that the leisure, cultural, heritage and ecotourism where the citizenry would plan to go sightseeing and excursion were not being patronized.

In order to boost domestic tourism, Abeiku Santana called for collective efforts from media houses, individuals and entities to plan activities that were geared towards promoting domestic tourism.

“It’s not our (GTA) sole responsibility, even though, it’s our core mandate to promote, sensitize and create awareness for Ghanaians to patronize our domestic tourism activities,” he said.

Abeiku Santana mentioned that the country as a whole should support GTA in its efforts to promote tourist sites like Paga Crocodile pond, Mole National Park, Kakum forest and Larabanga Ancient Mosque among others for the citizenry to patronize.
