Renowned vocalist Efya, has advised upcoming musicians to hone their skills if they want to compete and gain recognition in the industry.
According to her, singing is not about making noise; it is about sharpening one’s craft to meet the needs pertaining to the music business.
In an interview with the media, Efya noted that some up-and-coming musicians were moved by the fame and were trying to create unnecessary attention to occupy the media space rather than the work that has to go into their crafts.
“The only way you can show that you are on top is the work. The talk doesn’t do anything. And if you want to be on my level, you need to know how to sing so you can come and compete with me when it comes to the vocals,” she said.
Efya maintained that not all artistes needed to be loud to garner recognition, and she acknowledged some exceptional female vocalists like Titi Owusu, Abiana, Cina Soul, and Baaba J.
She said the work would speak volumes to music lovers, which would make them patronize their music, not the noise associated with the personality.
Efya is a four-time Best Female Vocal Performance award winner credited with a number of danceable hit songs like “Best in Me,” “One of Your Own,” and “Super.”
She is believed to be one of the great live stage performers and has performed at some prestigious events, including the Ghana Music Awards, the Radio and Television Personality Awards, the Hope City Launch Celebration Concert, and the Girl Talk concert.
The singer has performed alongside some local and international acts like Chris Brown, D3, P-Square, MI, Wande Coal, Burna Boy, Stonebwoy, Samini, Kojo Antwi, Kwabena Kwabena, Samini, D-Black, and R2Bees.
