Yanga SC of Tanzania soundly thrashed Medeama 3-0 on Wednesday, severely undermining their prospects of making it to the CAF Champions League knockout stage at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
Following Medeama’s first-half goal conceded, striker Jonathan Sowah was given the chance to tie the game with a penalty. Sowah did win the penalty, but he was unable to convert.
Sadly, Yanga took advantage of Medeama’s error, and as a result, the disheartened Medeama conceded two more goals at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
To make matters worse for Medeama, Sowah was later sent off in the last moments of the game, which would make him unavailable for their next important match against Al Ahly in Kumasi.
With five points, Yanga has moved up to tie for second place in the group behind leaders Al Ahly, who have played one fewer game than Yanga.
Medeama is now tied for third place with four points with CR Belouizdad, the Algerian champions, who also have a game remaining.
