Just after the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), conceded defeat ahead of the declaration of the elections result of the Electoral Commission, many Ghanaian celebrities have congratulated Ex-President John Dramani Mahama as the President Elect.
Bullgod, artist manager who had been speaking for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was the first to express excitement about the monumental defeat of the ruling party.
“When I speak, God listens . Welcome back HIS EXCELLENCY @officialjdmahama. LET’S MAKE GHANA GREAT AGAIN. #GOD #GodOnDuty #HornsUp #sikanhyiraadomaseda,” he tweeted.
Actress and social activist Lydia Forson used her platform to remind Ghanaians of their civic responsibilities while celebrating the historic female vice president.
“I hope this energy doesn’t stop. I hope we hold our leaders accountable the same way. And I hope our leaders learn to LISTEN to us and respect that we put them in power to serve our interest and not theirs,” she said.
On his part, actor Prince David Osei, a staunch supporter of the governing party, congratulated the president-elect and also congratulated his team of campaigners for their great job even if the NPP lost the elections to their political rival.
“What a fascinating phenomenon we’ve just witnessed! Ghana has spoken, and the results were not quite what we all anticipated. I am beyond proud of myself, my team, and our collective efforts; we gave it our all and fought a vigorous battle.
A hearty congratulations to our worthy rivals, NDC. Now, let the friendly banter and trolling commence! We don’t give up. We shall bounce back stronger and more resilient in the next four years!” he said.
Ghana went to the polls on Saturday, December 7, and the collation of the results is still ongoing due to the disruption and challenges the EC had encountered at their various offices.
The EC had 72 hours to declare the election results but had come out after 23 hours of the elections to address the country, urging them to calm their nerves as measures were in place to declare the winner.
