The Nungua Traditional area have performed rites to climax their yearly Kplejoo festival.
The festival climaxed with the Ohenease ceremony, a sacred ritual where the community honours their ancestors by sprinkling kpokpoi on their tombs.
Led by the paramount chief of Nungua, Oboadenotse King Prof. Nii Odaifio Welensti III, and sub-chiefs and queen mothers, they went on a walk from the Nungua palace to the Royal Mausoleum, where past chiefs have been buried, namely Odaitei Tse We, Mantse We, Nii Adjin We, and Nii Moi We, to perform the rites.
After, the King was sent to his father’s home, where he’s clothed in traditional attire and sits on his palaquin. There, he’s paraded in town to greet the people of Nungua.
For the people of Nungua, this is a time for reflection, gratitude, and joy. It’s a moment to honour their heritage and connect with their roots.
