American Ben Shelton pulled off an epic 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7) comeback victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard star was spotted vomiting during the game in their US Open quarterfinal clash, which lasted 4 hours and 28 minutes.

The pair broke the record for the latest finish ever at the tournament in Flushing Meadows, New York, with the contest eventually coming to an end at 3:35 a.m local time.

This surpassed the previous record held by Alcaraz when he faced Jannik Sinner in the 2022 quarterfinal, which finished at 2:50 a.m.

The final set ultimately went the distance with the seven-time major, overcoming Alcaraz in a 7-6 (10-7) thriller.

This marks the first win that the 23-year-old has claimed over the current world No. 3, having lost their previous three encounters, and arguably the biggest win of his career to date.
