Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed why key players like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were omitted from Nigeria’s Unity Cup squad.
Chelle said the decision was aimed at giving emerging talents a platform to shine, as Nigeria prepares to face Ghana in the tournament opener on May 28.
The coach included 10 players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and recalled veteran Ahmed Musa for leadership and experience.
“We have many players in Nigeria who need a chance to prove themselves,” Chelle told NFF Media. “This is part of our plan to build an identity and integrate players who can learn quickly.”
Chelle sees the Unity Cup as an opportunity to test systems and personnel ahead of September’s competitive fixtures.
