Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie has returned to Spanish club CD Lugo after completing his limited participation in the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Satellites.
Afriyie’s early departure was pre-agreed between CD Lugo and the Ghana Football Association, allowing him to feature in only the first two group matches of the CAF U-20 AFCON 2025. Joy Sports reports that Afriyie has already arrived in Madrid after leaving the team’s camp in Egypt.
The talented youngster made a notable impact during his brief stint, registering an assist in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Senegal by setting up Emmanuel Mensah’s decisive goal. He also came off the bench in Ghana’s opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo.
Afriyie was instrumental in Ghana’s qualification campaign for the tournament, and his absence presents head coach Desmond Ofei with a key challenge ahead of the final group game.
The Black Satellites will face the Central African Republic on Thursday, aiming to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 U-20 AFCON.
