Secular musician turned Evangelist, Yaw Siki has dismissed claims that salvation and life depend on the paying of tithes.
According to him, tithing is abolished when Jesus Christ came into the world.
Speaking in an interview on Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the “Kookroko” crooner explained that tithe came into existence when Abraham out of abundance gave one-tenth of what God blessed him with to Melchizedek, the priest.
”Due to that God made it a law for the people to pay tithe to help men of God who were not working and had devoted their entire life to the work of God,” he explained.
Yaw Siki maintained that tithe was a form of offertory and it became a law to teach Christians to demonstrate love to men of God.
However, when Jesus Christ came mankind was no longer under the law, therefore tithe couldn’t be forced and dismissed the famous preaching by renowned men of God like Bishop Sam Korakye Ankrah and Rev Dr. Kwadwo Boateng Bempah.
”Paying tithe is not a requirement to righteousness, paying tithe is not a requirement to holiness, paying tithe is not a requirement to salvation and it’s also not a requirement to live. That one is wrong, that one is cancelled, it’s not true because of Jesus. Now we are a new creation with a repented heart,” he added.
The issue of tithe sparked debate online following a “bold” Wesley Methodist Cathedral congregant who called her pastor Very Rev. Samuel Bruce and all the Bishops and elders of the church as robbers for making tithe compulsory for church members to pay before the church leaders would support members during funerals.
