The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has arrested a couple, 40-year-old Bismark Odoi and his wife, Savior Atta, for allegedly attempting to sell their 9-year-old son at Gomoa Nkwatanan, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the couple subjected the boy to severe physical abuse, chained his legs, and tied him to a tree in a nearby bush, where he was left for two days.
A woman who had gone to her farm on Wednesday discovered the helpless child and quickly alerted community authorities.
Eyewitness James Mensah confirmed the incident, stating that the woman reported seeing the child restrained in the bush.
“When we arrived, we found him very weak, with chains fastened to his legs and hands and tied to a tree,” he recounted.
Community members promptly reported the case to the police in Awutu Bereku, who retrieved the chains and launched an investigation. The boy’s father was arrested shortly after, followed by his mother.
Authorities suspect the couple intended to sell their son for money, but their plan was thwarted. The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
