According to reports, the popular fan of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Pooley, has died after being stabbed five times at the Nana Koramansah Park.
This tragic incident occurred following Asante Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman FC in a match day 19 clash of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
An official statement released by Kotoko condemned the violent attacks, which they and their traveling fans were subjected to by fans Nsoatreman FC before, during, and after the game.
Kotoko reported in the statement that one of their fans (Nana Pooley) who was stabbed had “succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.”
Goalkeeper of Kotoko, Mohammed Camara, was physically assaulted on the field during the match after an invasion of some supporters.
Laptops and other communication devices belonging to the visiting club were also destroyed in the unprovoked attacks by the fans of the home team, Nsoatreman FC.
Gabriel Bonnah scored the only of the game in the 81st minutes, which saw Kotoko kicked off the summit of the league table by Bibiani Gold Stars, who drew blank with defending champions, FC Samartex.
Kotoko expressed readiness to assist the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in its investigations into the unfortunate and unacceptable incidents of the match.
