The Ghana Police Service and the Naaga Traditional Area are mourning the loss of a distinguished son and patriot, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Retired) Charles Awini, who passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at the age of 73.

Born in 1951, Charles Awini dedicated his life to public service, law enforcement, and community development. His career in the Ghana Police Service earned him wide respect for his discipline, leadership, and integrity.

In retirement, he continued to inspire many, particularly within the Naaga Traditional Area in Ghana’s Upper East Region.

ACP Awini’s life was not only marked by service in uniform but also by devotion to faith and family. He is survived by children including C/Insp. Philip Awini of the Ghana Police Service, as well as several grandchildren, siblings, nephews, and nieces.

The announcement of his passing and the celebration of his life has been led by Naaga’s traditional rulers, the Catholic clergy, members of the Ghana Police Service, and extended family.
