Passion for Needy donates to GNAT ahead of health screening exercise

Date:

In order to support the health care needs of retired teachers, Passion for Needy, an NGO, has donated pharmaceutical drugs for the health screening exercise of the Retired Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Staff Association at Nungua in Accra on Thursday.

The items included malaria drugs, drugs for blood pressure (BP), diabetes, prostate, arthritis, and eye problems, and also 20 packs of bottled water.

Speaking in a short ceremony to present the drugs, the chairperson of the foundation, Mrs. Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, observed that retired teachers were great men and women who had served the country with integrity and deserved the best.

She indicated that the country could not overlook the services of those gallant teachers who had been “salt, honey, and light” as well as a source of knowledge, impacting children to become responsible adults.

Mrs. El-Aschkar said though the government was doing its best to address various challenges confronting teachers, the onus lay on benevolent organizations to supplement the government’s effort.

“As the government continues to put measures within this period to address various challenges, we find it necessary to also contribute our little substance to achieve the desired goal,” she added.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Association, Apostle Dr. Vincent Addotey Addo, the Chairman of the retired GNAT Staff Association, thanked Passion For Needy for the kind gesture.

He assured that the items would be used for their intended purpose and also reiterated the need for the government to double up its support for the upkeep of the elderly who have contributed meaningfully to national development.
