Reggie Rockstone: I Go Through Depression Too

0

Reggie Rockstone, Ghana’s grandpa of Hiplife music, has confessed that he sometimes goes through depression when he sees children suffering.

Reggie Rockstone, who was interviewed on an Accra-based FM station , shared:

“I get depressed when I see children not living their life. When children are suffering, that does something to my heart and that is why during these Corona times, we’ve been feeding a lot of street children with my Rock’s waakye which is now the talk of town “,Reggie Rockstone said.

He revealed that with his waakye, his team, together with Father Campbell, and himself , they feed as much as 150 and sometimes 200 children daily.

Reggie Rockstone also added that, “If you visit my Instagram page, you will see the work that I have been doing. In fact, it’s been a very beautiful story because I own three pubs and with the break of the Coronavirus and the ban on social gatherings, work wasn’t standing so well”.

It is only by God’s grace, according to him, that his waakye has become the talk of town, with people from all over the world ordering hundreds of packs to give out during these Covid-19 times.

The Hiplife legend said that “It was only recently that my brother Shatta Wale was mocking me that I sell waakye but all of a sudden, something ugly has been turned to gold.”

Lil Win: I’ll Break Funny Face Into Two

0

The fight between two top comedians of Ghana, Lil Win and Funny Face, in the last few weeks seem to have died down after there was no response from Lil Win when Funny Face dared him to say “fimfim”.

On a program on TV, Lil Win talked about the said beef between himself and his ‘friend’, the ‘Kasoa Vandamme’ man.

According to Lil Win, the whole thing initially started when he made a comment that Funny Face does not deserve the favourite actor award given to him during the Ghana Movie Award event.

The Weezy empire CEO stated that he felt like just troubling Funny Face with the comment he made because it’s been a while he heard from him, only for Funny Face to blow the harmless beef out of context to the extent of threatening to destroy his businesses.

He said that was a sign of immaturity from Funny Face.

Lil Win, amidst laughter on the show, hilariously said he is as fit as a fiddle hence if Funny Face tries to fight him physically he will break him into two.

President Akufo-Addo: My Coronavirus Critics Doing So For ‘Their Political Survival’

0

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said opponents of government’s COVID-19 fight strategies are doing so for their political survival.

The comment by Akufo-Addo comes days after NDC flagbearer and former President John Mahama criticised the efforts of government after significant number of positive cases were recorded on Friday.

“From 3,091 to 4,012 #COVID19 cases within 24 hours; Government is certainly failing the people of Ghana. Fear gripped many homes last night when the latest confirmed cases were released. And that is understandable. #COVID19 is real, my brothers and sisters. I want to encourage you, yet again, to protect yourself. Regular handwashing with soap and under running water is a must.

“Stay Home, but if you have to go out for any reason including work, wear your mask, take along a hand sanitizer, and always disinfect commonly used and touched surfaces. And, let us continue to remember the poor & needy. They need our support,” Mahama wrote on Facebook.

President Akufo-Addo, addressing the whole nation Sunday night, urged Ghanaians not to begrudge those politicians taking aims at government’s effort since they do so for their political survival.

“I know some political actors would want you to believe that the new numbers represent a failure on our part, do not begrudge them, they need to make such statements for their political survival,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo  extended the ban on public gathering in the country as confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Ghana rise to 4,700.

In a Sunday night address, President Akufo-Addo, warned people who violate the directive will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“Tonight I have come to your homes to announce that the ban on public gathering has been extended to the end of the month ie 31st of May,” he said.

The extension comes in the wake of reports that religious leaders were persuading the President to lift the ban on public gathering.

The President also reiterated the order for the closure of all borders to the country as means of containing the spread of the virus in the country.

Kweku Baako: ‘It Seemed We Had A Shadow President And A Parallel Administration’

0

Kweku Baako, after studying various addresses given by the current President and a former President, has said “There was a time it seemed Ghana had a shadow President,”

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been updating Ghanaians in a live broadcast; often on weekends.

President Akufo-Addo, in all, has addressed the nation on nine different occasions, even though some believe he (President) is using the Coronavirus scourge as a ruse to campaign for re-election.

Former President John Mahama, perhaps not wanting to be overshadowed, has also taken advantage of COVID-19, to address Ghanaians on similar issues.

As if that is not enough, Mr Mahama oftentimes uses his address to criticize the President’s actions and purport to give government suggestions.

This scenario, the Seasoned Journalist believed, created an ‘ugly type’ of politicization, which made him “uncomfortable”.

Kweku Baako said he had a problem with the NDC when they launched their COVID-19 team.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ he added: “there was a time and I’m choosing my words carefully; it seemed we had a shadow President and a parallel administration. It was looking like that and I didn’t feel comfortable with it . . . those things were all politicization; ugly type”.

Asiedu Nketia: NDC’s Yet-to-be-named Running Mate Will ‘Finish Off’ Bawumia

0

Mr. Jonhson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) , claims Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the weakest link in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC’s yet-to-be-named running mate will have no problem finishing him off.

There is the perception that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is a thorn in the flesh of the NDC considering his deeper understanding of economics and his resort to data to always make the NDC a laughing stock.

However, reacting to this in an interview on TV 3, Asiedu Nketia , who is known as General Mosquito , said Bawumia can never be a thorn in the flesh of the biggest opposition part.

Asiedu Nketia said if Bawumia will be given the opportunity to be the running mate of the NPP, it will be advantageous to the NDC in the campaign leading up to the 2020 elections.

“Those who hold that perception are engaged in something else. We don’t believe that Mahamudu Bawumia is any thorn in NDC’s flesh. Infact the way he has messed his own reputation up it will be very advantageous for us if he gets the slot to be a Running Mate of NPP”.

In the General Secretary’s estimation, “Bawumia will be a very easy candidate to deal with because all his records are there and whatever he has said in the past. He has created a certain perception about himself so it will be very easy for us going into 2020 campaign if any NDC Running Mate has to contend with Dr. Bawumia”.

Stephen Appiah: Black Stars ’92 Squad Is The Greatest Ever

0

Stephen Appiah, Ghana’s former Captain of the Black Stars, has said the 1992 Black Stars squad is the greatest national team ever assembled in this country.

Mr. Appiah , who captained the Ghana Black Stars for eight years and oversaw a huge period of success with the national team, revealed that even though his team was the first ever to qualify the country to the World Cup in Germany in 2006, the 1992 squad that included Tony Yeboah and Abedi Pele is the greatest ever.

According to Stephen Appiah, he believes the sheer talent, skill, panache and confidence that team played with is second to none in Ghana.

Stephen Appiah, who grew up on the streets of Chorkor, downtown Accra, recounts memories of watching that team as a boy.

“I didn’t get the opportunity to watch the [19]63 team, I couldn’t watch the 1982 team but I had the chance to watch the [19]92 squad,” he said this in an Instagram Live interview.

“Edward Ansah was our goalkeeper. We had Number 2 in Nii Darko Ankrah, we had in Number 3 our former coach, Kwesi Appiah. Frimpong Manso and Emmanuel Armah. Tony Baffoe, Prince Polley, Stanley Aborah, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Ali Ibrahim, Tony Yeboah and Abedi Pele.”

The Black Stars squad of 1992 went all the way at the Africa Cup of Nations that year, only to lose 11-10 on penalties.

That penalty shootout was significant mainly because it was the first time in a tournament that every player on the pitch took part in.

When Tony Baffoe missed, you could sense the despondency on the faces of the Black Stars.

The despair and a thought of having to do it all again in the next tournament weighed heavily in their minds.

Ghana had won it ten years before that tournament and have surprisingly not won it again since albeit making two more finals in 2010 and 2015.

The former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, revealed how significant that team was in shaping his successful national team career.

“When we were growing up these were the players that we were watching. These were the players we wanted to be like and it was amazing watching them in [19]92 in the African Cup of Nations. For me I think that team is the best ever.”

Ernest Thompson: Hearts of Oak Must Change Their Recruitment Policy

0

According to Ernest Thompson, a former Accra Hearts of Oak Board Secretary, the club must review their recruitment policy.

Ernest Thompson said the recruitment policy of the Hearts of Oak club has to be changed as the club currently lacks quality players to compete.

Speaking on an Accra based FM station on the club’s policies, Mr. Thompson advised the management of the Hearts of Oak club to buy three or four quality players to add to the average players before the club can win laurels.

“Management of Hearts Of Oak must take a look at the quality of recruitment. The recruitment policies needs to be changed,” he said.

“So when Hearts is doing recruitment they should make sure that they have few players who are above average, you may not have best of eleven players at a time, So Hearts should focus on recruiting good players who are not on the same standard, before they can see start winning laurels.

The legal luminary also pointed out how the presence of Don Bortey, Osei Kuffour, Ismael Addo and Charles Taylor made the difference at the club.

“Hearts Of Oak can not have the same type of players of the same standard, you need what we call two or three key players.

“In the year 2000, Hearts had Sammy Adjei, Osei Kuffour, Ishmael Addo,Don Bortey and Charles Taylor who could make a difference in any given game”

Since 2009 , the Hearts of Oak haven’t won the Ghana Premier League.

Agyinsam: Local Producers Guarantee Our Survival, Let’s Not Forsake Them Post Coronavirus

0

Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Exim Bank, has said all efforts must be put into ensuring that consumption of locally manufactured goods becomes the norm after the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to Mr. Agyinsam, local producers have guaranteed the survival of Ghanaians as the world has partially closed its borders – with some halting the export of essential goods to rightly protect their own.

Mr. Agyinsam is pushing for a lot to be done on changing the taste-preference of Ghanaians to switch from foreign produced goods to local ones.

According to him, such a move would not only ensure the fortitude of the bank but liberate Ghana from foreign dependency.

“This is the time we have to make the difference. We have to learn from COVID-19 and ensure that we have changed our preferences and consume locally produced goods. This bank has invested huge monies to build new factories, support struggling factories and resurrect dead ones. All these monies will be recouped early to ensure survival of the bank if we all consume and use made in Ghana goods.

“During this COVID-19 era, our garment sector has risen to the occasion by producing local PPE; all of us, both home and abroad, are proud to be Ghanaians because the west is struggling with PPE and here we are producing them in the thousands.

“We have abundant hand-sanitisers, thanks to local producers. India stopped the export of certain items including drugs, and here we are rising to the occasion. Our pharmaceutical manufacturers are delivering because they got support from Exim Bank and others to expand and produce some essential drugs locally,” Mr. Agyinsam said.

Mr. Agyinsam , disclosing this during a meeting between the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) and top management of the Ghana Exim Bank , added that the bank’s vision – to become a strong financial institution that will be a key engine in the development of Ghana’s export trade, facilitate cross-border trade and make Ghana a pillar in regional and continental trade – will be achieved in the shortest possible time if the campaigns to consume locally produced goods continue unabated.

He further revealed that GH¢57.8million was invested in five garment companies of the country way before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ghana. The investment was to help revive the textiles and garment sector and make it compete globally. This investment is yielding positive results as it has contributed to ensuring that these companies have the capacity to support the nation’s COVID-19 fight with PPE.

According to Mr. Agyinsam, the sector has been noted as one with great potential to help reduce Ghana’s unemployment rate and derive huge foreign exchange to support strengthening of the local currency.

The pharmaceutical sector has had some US$60million pumped into its operations to ensure the nation becomes self-sufficient in the production of essential drugs, and also to target the export market.

The agriculture sector has also seen a substantial investment from the bank. Players in poultry, shea butter, cassava, coconut, maize and sweet potato are among the many sub-sectors that have benefitted with funding from the bank.

Banking Expert: Hold Annual General Meetings Virtually To Meet BoG’s Requirement

0

Mr. Nana Otuo Acheampong, a Banking Expert, has recommended that to satisfy the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) requirement, commercial banks should hold their Annual General Meetings (AGM’s) virtually.

This comment by the Banking Expert follows many commercial banks serving notice that their AGMs have been put on hold as a way of responding to the risks associated with the Coronavirus outbreak in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview, the banking expert, said; “The ban on public gathering which has been given under the certificate of urgency is like when you are in a war and everything stops and gets substituted. That is why they have to go and implement the Imposition of Restriction Act passed by Parliament. So, once the law is in place, then everything else is on hold and therefore it will include holding Annual General Meetings”

“No institution can hold an Annual General Meeting unless they are doing it electronically. Nobody can hold an AGM with a 1,000 or so shareholders. It’s all under the Imposition of Restriction Act,” Nana Otuo Acheampong said.

Banks in Ghana, meanwhile, per the Banking Act are required to publish their financial statements of account along with holding Annual General Meetings with their shareholders annually.

However, banks are now faced with the challenge of how to meet their shareholders due to social distancing directives with the imposition of a ban on social gathering by the state.

Several businesses and organisations, following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, have been badly hit financially with some having been forced to fold and lay off some of their staff.
