Nigeria beats Ghana 4-2 at the WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament in Cape Coast

Date:

In the inaugural encounter of the WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana’s under-17 team, the Black Starlets, were thrashed 4-2 by Nigeria.

In the 13th minute, Nigerian Emmanuel Michael scored a fantastic free-kick.

Williams, a Nigerian adolescent, extended the visitors’ lead in the 44th minute, right before halftime.

Following the intermission, the Nigerians made it 3-0 when Azeez scored, effectively putting an end to the Black Starlets’ aspirations of producing a comeback.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin made a rapid substitute to replace goalkeeper Amadu Dembarah, who had made a mess for the Black Starlets. Shaibu Rafiue was brought on to man the post for the Black Starlets.

When Abdul Salifu slid through the Nigerian defense to score, Ghana pulled one back in the game.

Nigeria’s fourth goal came from a scrappy goal after Ghana failed to clear their lines, allowing defender Eze to score an easy goal.

When one of their players was hauled down in the Nigerian box in the 88th minute, the Black Starlets scored a consolation goal.

Ghana’s captain Collins Agyemang scored from the penalty spot to give Nigeria a 4-2 victory.
