Calls for an investigation into the military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, increase on social media, as a section suspects foul play.
The Ghana Armed Forces Z9 helicopter headed for Obuasi around 10:30 am crashed at Adansi Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region, killing eight persons onboard, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Omane Boamah.
Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and the rest of the crash victims were en route to represent the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, at a corporate mining initiative programme.
Many conspiracy theories, including President John Mahama’s relationship with the East, suggest the West may have had a hand in the crash. Others likened the incident to that of one that killed the president of Iran and his foreign minister.
Attention has been drawn to the model of the aircraft, the Z9, which is Chinese manufactured and which some claim lacks modern safety features and has limited sensor fusion or terrain warning and was never reliable in the first place.
