His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, president of the Republic of Ghana, has relieved Dodzie Numekevor of his role as the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
This unsurprising move by the president comes off recent backlash at Numekevor following the criticism of the state of the various national stadia which led to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banning the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as Ghana’s home venue for hosting category ‘A’ matches.
Numekevor, reportedly authorized the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for a religious activity just six days before the Black Stars’ 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola on September 5, leaving the pitch damaged.
The NSA has since closed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, and the Cape Coast Stadium for maintenance.
Does the sacking of Numekevor, and a slap on the wrist of others involved solve this monumental catastrophe facing sports in Ghana?
