The Kekeli Muslim Community (KMC) has appealed to President John Mahama to reconsider the appointment of Mohammed Abdul Salaam as Managing Director of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
The community expressed concern, stating that appointing a Muslim to head the NLA is troubling, as Islam explicitly forbids gambling, betting, and lotteries.
The KMC cited Quranic verses, including Quran 5:90, which condemns intoxicants and games of chance as “infamy of Satan’s handiwork,” urging believers to avoid them. Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated that engaging in games of chance is an act of disobedience.
The KMC respectfully urged the President to revise the appointment, seeing it as a potential ridicule of Islam. They emphasized that revising the appointment would uphold Islamic values and prevent harm to Muslims, particularly the youth, who might be led toward harmful practices.
The community hopes Muslim leaders will also engage the President on this matter, believing swift action will strengthen relations between the administration and the Muslim community.
