Kenkey sellers within Accra in areas like Tudu, Adabraka, Osu, and Jamestown have complained bitterly about the continuous increase in prices in the market, revealing the price of pepper to be GHS 800 GH, so due to this, they are taking into consideration whether to sell the pepper too.
Kenkey, which is known as ‘k)mi’ by everyone, has been patronized for years as one of the favorite dishes enjoyed by all, most especially the Ga’s, because of how affordable it is. It’s usually sold with pear, grinded pepper, and fried fish; some even garnish it with fried eggs, sausage, sardines, shrimps, etc.
On a normal day, you can enjoy kenkey for just GHS 5–10, but now it’s very rare because if you really want to enjoy kenkey to your satisfaction, you have to pay about GHS 30–50 because fish and bags of pepper are now expensive and cost GHS 800 or more.
Hajia of the famous ‘Kenkey Boutique’ joint at Adabraka, expressed her dissatisfaction over the cost of ingredients, as she laments being unbale to satisfy her customers with little go ahead.

She further went on about how some customers may only have GHS 10 to buy two balls of kenkey with just pepper and those that have only GHS 5 but it’s not possible because the kenkey is sold with fish and fish is expensive.”The least is GHS 10 and very soon pepper will also not be free,” she said.
