Rev. Washington Komla Darke, formerly the Vice President of Administration at the Ghana Baptist Convention, has been inducted as the new Senior Pastor of one of the biggest and earliest Baptist churches in Ghana, Calvary Baptist Church.
The induction took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, Shiashie. Rev. Darke takes over from Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe as the church’s new leader.
Rev. Darke, under the mentorship of Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, who on the day of induction earned the nickname Rev. Emeritus, spent the year 2023 together with his wife, Mrs. Miriam Larteley Darke, familiarizing themselves with the running of the church.
After being invited to share a sermon by the service leader, Rev. Felix Owusu, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi charged the new senior pastor to make the church a place of refuge for everyone seeking one because churches are the first place for people to seek refuge in times of adversity.
Rev. Darke revealed a long-term vision statement for the church that will run from 2024 to 2033. His commitment and plans for the Calvary Baptist Church received overwhelming support from the congregation, which has promised to support their new leader in every way they can.
As a symbol of his office and new status, Rev. Darke was robed and presented with a Bible and a copy of the Church’s constitution.
Among those present were Queen Mother of Peki, Professor Darke, Togbe Darke Bansah, Rev. Professor Emeritus Gilbert Ansreh, Rev. Otu Bimpong, Rev. Ala Adjetey, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, Rev. Ampofo, Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin, and senior management representatives from SSNIT, NHIA, and VRA.
