#MAXAFCON2023 UPDATES: Three most famous sets of brothers to play at the AFCON

Date:

The Africa Cup of Nations over the years has witnessed a host of talented players exhibiting the skills and leading their respective nations to gold. Amongst them sets of brothers, wearing the badge of their countries proudly.

Here is a selection of some of the most famous footballing brothers to grace the AFCON over the years:

Rahim, Andre, and Jordan Ayew

Black Stars captains Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew are set to compete together for their motherland for a record sixth time at the 2023 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Sons of the African football legend, Abedi Pele, the two famous brothers, together with Rahim Ayew, their eldest brother, have represented the colors of Ghana with immense honor.

Kolo, and Yaya Toure

With the defensive prowess of Kolo and the midfield magic playing style of Yaya, they led the Ivorian golden generation to new heights.

In 2006 and 2012, the brothers played a significant role in Ivory Coast’s journey to the finals, when they were defeated by Egypt and Zambia, respectively.

The Toure brothers’ legendary international careers looked set to end in 2015 after they failed to capture the coveted AFCON championship in their sixth and final campaign in Equatorial Guinea against Ghana.

Christopher, and Felix Katongo

Together, Christopher and Felix Katongo participated in five separate AFCON competitions, beginning in 2006 and concluding in 2013.

Their outstanding performances helped Zambia surprise Africa in 2012 and win Chipolopolo’s maiden AFCON championship in the competition played in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
