The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has launched a nationwide crackdown on undocumented migrants, with its latest operation broadcast live from Abossey Okai in Accra during Max Morning Agenda.
The enforcement exercise began early Friday, May 16, 2025, as part of efforts to uphold immigration laws and safeguard national security.
According to a press release from the GIS Public Affairs Unit, led by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, the operation aims to ensure all foreign nationals residing in Ghana are properly documented.
“We are currently reviewing the outcomes of the operation and will share updates in due course,” the statement said.
Though exact figures and locations remain undisclosed, the operation reportedly involved collaboration with other national security agencies. It follows increasing concerns over undocumented migrants operating unlawfully in urban centres.
The GIS urged public cooperation and assured that due process will guide the operation. Assistant Commissioner Amoako-Atta emphasized that the goal is to maintain order—not to harass legally residing foreigners.
“Our aim is to sanitise the system, not to victimise law-abiding residents,” he reiterated.
