Gospel singer Patience Nyarko claims that if a Ghanaian had organized the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), it would have failed.
According to her, the award scheme has survived the test of time due to a Nigerian resourcing and organizing the event.
In an interview with the media, Patience Nyarko though observed the organizers were making business out of the scheme, she acknowledged that the award scheme has helped Ghana’s industry most especially the musicians to gain recognition.
“Ghana Music Awards has really helped Ghana’s music industry even though they are running their business. Let’s consider the various awards we have, which of them is able to live up to expectation than the VGMAs?” she quizzed.
Patience Nyarko noted that some Ghanaians over the years have complained about the award being organized by a Nigerian “but the fact is that it would have collapsed if it was organized by a Ghanaian.”
Meanwhile in 2018, she condemned Charterhouse Productions, organizers of the awards for not nominating her track “Obi Nyane Me” among the popular song of the year, thus questioned it authenticity.
Charterhouse Productions is a company owned by Nigerian business magnate Iyola Ayoade and his Ghanaian wife Theresa Ayoade.
