The Adenta High Court has adjourned the case involving rapper Mohammed Ismail Sherif, known by his stage name Black Sherif, to November 16, 2023.
Black Sherif was sued by Cruise People Limited for allegedly failing to honor an agreement to make an official video for a concert dubbed “Afro Cruise Jam concert.”
ahead of the media launch on May 19, leading to the cancellation of the said concert.
which he was billed to perform in August 2023.
According to Cruise People Limited, after booking Black Sherif for the concert and paying half of his booking fee of $20,000, the “Kwaku The Traveller” hitmaker was expected to make a video confirming his participation in the event in Greece but failed to do so.
The company, therefore, is demanding $100,000 in compensation for losses.
Her Ladyship Mariama Sammo, who presided over the case, ordered the plaintiff, Cruise People Limited, and the defendant’s lawyers to write and file legal arguments by November 2, 2023.
Black Sherif, the defendant, had filed a motion that Ghana had no jurisdiction to determine the case since the contract for his performance stipulated that any legal proceedings would be heard in the United Kingdom.
However, the lawyers of the plaintiff also filed an affidavit opposing the motion that the Adenta High Court has jurisdiction to hear and determine the case since both parties were Ghanaians and plied their trades in the country.
In attendance were Black Sherif’s road manager, Frederick Osei, aka Aubrey, the plaintiff, Daniel Vanderpuye, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cruise People Limited, and their counsels.
