The Ghana Football Association (GFA) deeply regrets the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. We sincerely apologize to Ghanaians for the disappointment caused by this outcome, which fell short of the nation’s expectations.
We share in the collective frustration of our cherished fans and express heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the qualifying campaign. Your passion remains a source of motivation as we strive to rebuild and improve.
Following an Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, 20th November 2024, the following decisions were made:
- Dissolution of the Black Stars Management Committee
The Management Committee of the senior national team has been dissolved. The GFA extends its gratitude to the committee members for their service to Ghana Football over the years. - Technical Review Meeting with Head Coach
The Executive Council will meet Black Stars Head Coach, Mr. Otto Addo, on 27th November 2024 to review his technical report on the AFCON qualifiers and evaluate the performance of the technical team since his appointment earlier this year.
Ghana Football Retreat
To address concerns from stakeholders and chart a path forward, the GFA will organize a Ghana Football Retreat on 28th November 2024 at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence.
The retreat will bring together diverse stakeholders, including:
- Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and the media.
- National Sports Authority, PFAG, former captains, and players.
- Coaches, supporters, and football enthusiasts.
- Professionals in sports-related fields (e.g., medics, marketers, economists).
- Opinion leaders, including traditional rulers.
Key ministries, such as Sports, Finance, and Education, alongside the Ghana Revenue Authority and Ghana Tourism Authority, will also participate.
The primary goal of this retreat is to solicit perspectives and ideas for creating a roadmap to enhance the performance of the Black Stars and other national teams.
We appreciate the patience and support of all Ghanaians and remain committed to rebuilding a stronger, more competitive team in the future.
Signed:
The Ghana Football Association
