Nungua Mantse, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, has been elected as the new President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC).
His election marks a pivotal leadership transition, as he previously served as Vice President and stepped into the role of acting President following the passing of Nene Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Kwesi Animle VI, the former Paramount Chief of the Shai Osudoku Traditional Area.
Professor Welentsi III’s ascent to the presidency came after Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II withdrew from the race, allowing him to assume the position unopposed. Under the provisions of Act 759 of 2008, the President of GARHC serves a four-year term, ensuring stability and continuity in the traditional leadership of the Greater Accra Region.
Alongside him, Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of the Prampram Traditional Area, has been elected as Vice President. Their elections were formalized in a ceremony where both leaders took the oath of office, administered by Ms. Bacilia Adjei-Tawiah, a circuit court judge.
In her remarks, Judge Adjei-Tawiah urged the new leaders to promote peace and development in their communities and to keep chieftaincy matters free from litigation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and collaboration.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Professor Welentsi III committed to working diligently to foster unity and progress in the Greater Accra Region. “This is not just my personal victory, but a victory for all of us. While I will serve as President, I view this role as a shared responsibility,” he stated.
