Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana FA, has formally declared his intention to run for re-election in the 2018 GFA elections.
On Monday in Kumasi, at the 29th GFA Ordinary Congress, Okraku made the news and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to oversee Ghanaian soccer. Standing ovations and “Long Live Kurt” chants from the ecstatic audience greeted his remarks.
New executives, including the hotly disputed president, will be chosen during the GFA elections, which are set for October.
Okraku’s affirmation opens the door for a tight contest because former vice presidents of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie and Kojo Yankah have also stated their intention to run.
Despite losing to Okraku in the 2019 elections, Afriyie is regarded as a serious contender with the ability to overthrow Okraku’s rule.
People are anticipated to pay great attention to the impending elections.
As the election for the GFA leadership heats up, all eyes will be on the contenders as they outline their goals and strategies for developing Ghana football. The next election looks to be a crucial and exciting turning point in the governance of Ghanaian football.
