Jeremie Frimpong: “I’m thrilled to visit Ghana

Date:

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his excitement after arriving in Ghana for the first time on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international touched down at Kotoka International Airport to a warm and enthusiastic reception, kicking off a week-long holiday in the country.

Frimpong, born to Ghanaian parents, had previously revealed his intention to visit Ghana following Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan earlier this month. Staying true to his word, he embarked on this journey to reconnect with his roots.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Frimpong shared his elation: “It’s amazing. To come here and experience this welcoming atmosphere for the first time—it’s just incredible. These are my people. I’m so happy to see everyone; I’m so happy to be in Ghana.”

He further reflected on his deep ties to Ghana: “I’ve always felt connected to my Ghanaian heritage. Both my parents are from here. I eat Ghanaian food, I speak the language—it’s always been a part of me. But being here in person makes it even more special.”

Highlighting the importance of the trip, Frimpong said, “I had to come to Ghana. This is where I’m from; my blood is Ghanaian. It was always going to happen, and now is the perfect time to make it happen.”

Frimpong has been a standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen, contributing 16 goals last season as the club celebrated their first-ever Bundesliga title with an undefeated run.

His visit to Ghana is a meaningful milestone, underscoring his pride in his heritage while continuing to shine on the global football stage.
