Several international musicians are expected to attend the funeral of Teddy Osei of Osibisa fame, which is slated for April 5, 2025.
The funeral, which will be held in the late artist’s hometown, Kyiriapatre, a community in the Asokwa municipality of the Ashanti Region, will see performances from Carl Bannerman, Robert Bailey, Dell Richardson, and Wendell Richardson.
This was revealed by the younger brother of the late Joe Tontoh.
He said the musicians would perform at Teddy’s tribute concert at +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra alongside a few chosen local artists, such as Bessa Simons.
Teddy Osei, a Ghanaian saxophonist and musician who co-founded the London-based afro-rock group Osibisa, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the age of 88 after a brief illness.
He left behind three children.
His passing marks the end of an era for Osibisa, as he was the last surviving member of the three founding members of the band, following the deaths of Sol Arnafio and Mark Tontoh.
Osibisa is a British-Ghanaian-Caribbean Afro-rock band founded in London in the late 1960s by four expatriate West African and three London-based Caribbean musicians.
