Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) is sounding the alarm on illegal water connections threatening public water supply in the Accra West Region. Following a thorough detection operation, the utility company uncovered nearly 1,500 illegal connections spanning its 12 districts between late 2024 and early 2025.
Despite a grace period allowing culprits to regularise their connections without legal consequences, over 800 individuals have ignored multiple warnings. Now, GWL is taking a hard line—offenders will face arrest and prosecution, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.
“Illegal water connections are not just an administrative violation—they are criminal acts that affect every law-abiding customer,” said Ing. Emmanuel Johnson, Regional Chief Manager.
These unauthorized connections cause severe water losses, disrupt service delivery, and deprive the company of vital revenue needed to maintain infrastructure and expand services.
What You Can Do:
- Report illegal connections in your area by calling GWL’s dedicated lines:
- 030 221 8240 / 020 738 5088 / 020 738 5089 / 020 738 5090
- Toll-free on Telecel: 0800 40 000
The company pledges to uphold equity in water distribution and ensure uninterrupted service for paying customers. Citizens are urged to support this mission by rejecting water theft and embracing regularization.
Remember: Illegal connections are theft. GWL is watching—and it will act.
