Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has warmly accepted an invitation from National Sports Authority Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah to lead officers of the Ghana Police Service in the May Day Evening Walk and Workout on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
This high-profile event, designed to promote community wellness and strengthen collaboration between security services and sports organizations, will see the IGP at the forefront of a fitness initiative that underscores the Service’s commitment to public health and safety.
During a courtesy visit by the NSA Director General and his delegation to Police Headquarters on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, both parties agreed on the importance of deepening cooperation through joint sports and fitness programmes.
In that meeting, IGP Yohuno pledged his full support for future NSA-led events, while DCOP Lydia Donkor of the CID praised the achievements of the Police Ladies football team and urged the revival of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games.
COP Iddi Seidu, who oversees welfare on the Police Management Board, added that identifying and recruiting sporting talent into the Service would yield long-term benefits.
In addition to leading the May Day Walk, IGP Yohuno confirmed he will attend the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
His presence at this marquee fixture underscores the Ghana Police Service’s dedication to ensuring safe, well-managed sporting events and reflects its broader role in national community engagement.
The IGP’s active participation in both the May Day Walk and the Hearts vs Kotoko showdown highlights the vital role of sports in fostering unity and promoting public safety.
As the Ghana Police Service continues to champion fitness and community collaboration, this partnership with the NSA marks a significant step toward leveraging sports for social good and institutional cooperation.
