Experienced Ghanaian coach Ibrahim Tanko is expected to arrive in Tarkwa on Wednesday to officially assume his role as Head Coach of Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC, according to reports.
The 47-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, which includes oversight responsibilities for the club’s feeder team. He will be unveiled on Wednesday, January 29, 2024.
Tanko replaces Bosnian coach Nebojsa Kapor, who mutually parted ways with the club in December 2024. In the interim, Evans Adotey, who stepped in after Kapor’s departure, has now been reassigned as the club’s Technical Director.
Having previously served as Technical Director of Accra Lions, Tanko has been on the job market since leaving the club. The former Borussia Dortmund forward brings a wealth of experience, having coached in Japan’s J-League, Germany’s Bundesliga, and also served as assistant coach of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions.
Medeama SC hopes his appointment will inject fresh momentum into their title challenge, as they currently sit eight points behind the league leaders.
