On March 16, 2024, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the appointment of the new technical team for the Black Stars of Ghana.
The GFA necessitated this appointment to replace the previous technical team led by Irish-Ghanaian gaffer Chris Hughton following a disgraceful 2023 African Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast, when Ghana crashed out in the group stages.
Former Ghanaian international, Otto Addo, who was previously an interim head coach for the Black Stars in 2022, led the new technical team, which also consists of two former Ghana players John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda, and Moroccan-German trainer Joseph Laumann.
Despite managing to take the Black Stars joint-top on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Group I, their competencies have recently been heavily questioned after the team failed to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, finishing bottom of their group behind Niger, Sudan, and Angola.
Following the GFA publicly expressing its confidence in head coach Otto Addo, it came to light that he and his assistants had not been paid for the last three months.
Max FM reached out to the Communication Director at the GFA, Henry Asante-Twum, for comments on the reports, which he confirmed were true but assured it would be settled.
“Yes. What I know is that September, October, and November… I know there have been meetings; there have been calls between a lot of push from both the FA side and the coaches’ side,” he said to Nana Darkwa Gyasi.
However, Asante-Twum refuted claims the players of the Black Stars have not received their bonuses, as he assured the salaries owed to the technical team did not affect them during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
