Ghanaian media personality and vocalist Afua Asantewaa has once again fallen short in her bid to claim the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest individual singing marathon, following a review of her second attempt by the global record body.
In an official update, GWR confirmed that the attempt could not be validated due to multiple breaches of its strict rest break regulations.
According to GWR’s guidelines, participants are permitted a five-minute break for every hour of continuous singing. However, Afua’s attempt was disqualified after two specific violations:
“At 23:25 during sequence 19, Afua reportedly took a 15-minute break, when she was only entitled to 5 minutes. Later, during sequence 21, she took a 105-minute break despite having just 10 minutes of accrued rest time,” GWR clarified.
These infractions rendered the attempt invalid, as the organisation emphasised the importance of consistent fairness and rule compliance in all record attempts.
Despite the disappointment, Afua Asantewaa remains upbeat. In a statement, she reflected on the experience with pride and appreciation.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences,” she noted.
She also extended heartfelt thanks to her team, sponsors, and supporters — including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II — for their unwavering encouragement.
While this marks her second unsuccessful attempt, Afua affirmed that her dream is not over and hinted at more to come on her journey.
