The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has denied reports on social media that it has changed the culturally significant inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaaba” (Akan) with the word “Oobake” on the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park signage.
In a statement dated August 28, 2025, and signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, the GTA clarified that it never authorised or approved any alteration to the existing inscriptions, which remain intact as symbols of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
The Authority emphasised that any change to signage at the national monument would require consultation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the relevant agency.
The GTA urged the public and stakeholders to disregard the false information and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the park as a site of national pride and unity.
The Authority also reminded the public to verify information through its official channels before sharing.
