The President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Bawah Fuseini, is confident the country’s medal drought could be something of the past under his tenure.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Bawah, who doubles as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Confederation of Africa Athletics Region (CA. A.II), says his focus is to lift the image of the discipline and build a formidable national team.
“Ghana Athletics in the next couple of years would like to have multiple athletes running sub 10 seconds in men’s 100m, sub 20 seconds in men’s 200m, and sub 44 seconds in men’s 400m, getting field events to the level of more than 8 meters in long jump and 2.2 meters in high jump beyond the 80 meters javelin.
“Likewise in the women’s events in the same events, 100m, 200m, 400 long jump, and high jump, to the level of them getting medals at continental and global levels,” he added
