Ghana Government Fights Back For Thomas Partey Over Unfair Canadian Treatment

Date:

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ghana has responded to the barring of Thomas Partey from Canada.

Thomas Partey is expected not to feature for the Black Stars of Ghana against Panama next Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Toronto.

The Athletic, on Friday, June 12, 2026, revealed Partey (32) was refused entry into Canada for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L opener due to the current rape charges hanging over his head.

With FIFA not involving itself in the immigration processes of host countries, including the adjudication of visas, Hon. Kofi Adams disclosed the government of Ghana has taken the matter to heart.

“The Government of Ghana reaffirms the fundamental legal principle of the presumption of innocence, a cornerstone of justice and due process in democratic societies,” a portion of the MoFA’s release read.

Thomas Partey is set to appear before the Southwark Crown Court on June 8, 2027, to fight charges of rape and sexual assault.
