Nana Fosu Gyeabour has detailed how the Ghana Football Association (GFA) helped reverse the decision in favour of Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC.
The defending champions of Ghana’s women elite football division, Ampem Darkoa, are set to take on Nigerian champion Edo Queens on Thursday night in Cairo, Egypt.
Ampem Darkoa had protested the decision to proceed directly to penalties after the final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5, arguing that 30 minutes of extra time should have been played in line with the CAF WAFU-B Regulations.
The patron of Ampem Darkoa, Nana Fosu Gyeabour, hailed President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, and Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo Esq., for their roles in CAF’s decision.
He revealed on Max FM’s Sports Pack show that his team approached Mr Okraku with their complaint, and he took it up because it was legitimate.
Then stepped in Lawyer Harrison, who presented an appeal to the Confederation of African Football, arguing in favour of the Ghanaian club.
CAF upheld the appeal, much to the disappointment of the Nigerian side, whose lawyer was described as “empty” compared to the GFA Secretary by Nana Fosu Gyeabour.
Ampem Darkoa arrived in Cairo at 03:00 AM on Wednesday morning to play two 15-minute periods of extra time, with penalties to decide the winner if they remain level on Thursday night.
