FIFU-20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Black Princesses Aim to Break Knockout Stage Drought-Coach

Date:

The Black Princesses of Ghana are determined to overcome their historical challenge of not progressing beyond the group stage in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, as highlighted by their head coach, Yussif Basigi.

During a recent media briefing on July 22, 2024, at Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Basigi emphasized the team’s resolve and preparation to achieve this milestone. He acknowledged the difficulties faced in previous tournaments, notably during the 2018 World Cup, which coincided with administrative disruptions affecting their performance.

Looking ahead optimistically, Basigi expressed confidence in the team’s prospects this time around, despite past setbacks.

“It was unfortunate during the 2018 World Cup due to administrative issues, but that won’t be an excuse. This time, we are highly motivated to break the jinx. We’ve made the players aware, and our technical staff is fully prepared,” he remarked.

Ghana faces formidable competition in Group E, drawn against former World champions Japan, Austria, and New Zealand.

The 11th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22, 2024.
