Manchester United did nowhere near enough to get a desired result against Crystal Palace.
The Reds fell to a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace after offering nothing in the final third. It’s a criticism every player needs to take on board because Manchester United fans are being subjected to it far too often.
United had a bright start to the game as Kobbie Mainoo hit the post, but Crystal Palace hung on in the opening exchanges and grew in confidence as the game went on.
Palace opened the scoring after the hour mark through Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was in the right place to finish a rebound that had fallen his way after the ball came back off the crossbar. He also scored Palace’s second goal to make it 2-0.
United were toothless in response and the players were disappointed as a result.
Bruno Fernandes is one of few United players who consistently creates chances.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, he stressed that United were not aggressive enough in the final third: “We spoke after the games we won. We said everything we did in the past would be forgotten if we don’t win the next one and that’s the case today.
