The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed that access to collation centers is restricted to accredited individuals only, following reports of unauthorized persons forcing entry into these areas.
“Collation of both presidential and parliamentary results is ongoing at all 276 constituency collation centers. The EC reminds political parties and candidates that these centers are restricted,” stated Samuel Tettey, EC Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, during a press briefing.
Tettey emphasized that each candidate is allowed only two agents at the centers, urging stakeholders to adhere to these rules to prevent overcrowding and ensure a smooth collation process. “There is no need for collation centers to be overcrowded,” he added.
The warning comes after incidents in constituencies like Ablekuma West, Ablekuma Central, and Okaikoi North, where clashes erupted as groups attempted to force their way in to observe the process.
In Ayawaso Central, chaos ensued when unidentified individuals destroyed ballot boxes and papers at the ATTC School collation center, forcing EC officials to flee with materials for safety. Security personnel faced challenges differentiating between accredited agents and unaccredited residents, many claiming they were there to safeguard the ballots.
