Dishonesty is killing our football — Anim Addo

Date:

Samuel Anim Addo, a football agent and president of Ghana Premier League side Young Apostles, laments the decline of Ghanaian football caused by the dishonesty of certain actors in the game.

Following the wild allegations made by Anim Addo against the current administration of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding threats to relegate his club, he revealed how the president of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, angrily opposed his views on referee Maxwell Hanson in a brainstorm meeting chaired by Nana Sarfo Oduro.

In an interview on the Sports Pack show on Max FM, he insisted football in the country is suffering greatly due to dishonesty, especially on the part of certain match officials.

“Why don’t we be honest and stop doing this [bad refereeing] to ourselves? Take a look at the Premier League; there’s no sponsorship.

When I inquired why fingers are always pointed at this particular referee [Maxwell Hanson], the president [Kurt Okraku] angrily retorted at me for talking about the referee.

This is the reason why our football is struggling because we don’t speak the truth,” he said on phone to Nana Darkwa Gyasi.

His outbursts at that particular meeting, he claimed, resulted in the GFA threatening to send his club back to the lower leagues of Ghanaian football.

“Yakubu, who was not part of the meeting, called to inform me that they have planned to relegate my team because of what I said at the meeting. We [Young Apostles] are always cheated by the referees,” he added.

In response to the allegation the GFA charged the football administrator with a breach of Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of its Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019.

His club, however, Young Apostles FC, has issued an official statement distancing themselves from the statements made by Anim Addo.
